Boys compete in IAPS Triathlon Champs
Last weekend, three Caterham pupils were greeted with big blue skies and warm conditions as they prepared themselves for the IAPS Triathlon Championships 2023 at Monkton Prep near Bath.
First off in the morning was Jack T (Year 5) in the U10 competition. This was Jack’s first ever triathlon, and although the prospect of sorting out his own kit in transition was tricky, he more than stepped up to the mark during the race. Over tough terrain Jack saved his best until last, posting an 8th fastest time on the run leg and finishing 13th overall out of 38 competitors, a brilliant result. We are sure this won’t be Jack’s last triathlon as he certainly has the ability to do very well in the future.
In the U11 competition, Archie E and Oak W (Year 6) were racing together again and it was a real cat and mouse affair. Archie posted a great swim time but was caught and overtaken by Oak who had a brilliant bike ride over a hilly course. During the three lap run on a sloping course, Archie pulled out all the stops and retook the lead from Oak in lap 2 who was troubled by a stitch. Both boys managed a strong finish and were exhausted after the race. Largely helped by Archie’s 9th fastest run time he came 20th out of 37 with Oak closely behind him in 23rd.
All three boys represented the school fantastically well and thoroughly enjoyed
