Happy Jewish New Year!
Today Mr Salem, from the senior school, came to talk to the children in Years 3 to 6 about the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah. He brought some traditional objects and clothing, some fun facts and some of his trademark jokes (please ask your children about Moses and his tea).
He explained that the festival is about new beginnings and is followed ten days later by the Day of Atonement, during which time Jewish people find people they might have upset during the year to apologise and make amends before starting a new year.
Assembly ended with Mr Salem showing the children how to wish people a sweet New Year with an apple and some local honey.
Shana tova!
