Let’s Get Reading!
Mrs. Jackson’s ‘Twelve Days of Christmas Reading Challenge’ motivated numerous children to explore a range of books and stories during the holidays, resulting in an impressive collective reading accomplishment! Every child who successfully completed the challenge received a special certificate and was warmly applauded during Friday’s celebration assembly. Keep an eye out for upcoming challenges throughout the year.
Favourite Books and Authors! In a recent survey, we asked the children about their favourite books and authors. Julia Donaldson once again topped the list as the clear favourite.
Last term, among many great class and library books, ‘The Night Dragon’ by Naomi Howarth and ‘Do Not Open This Book Again!’ by Andy Lee stood out, capturing the children’s attention and imagination. Thanks to Caterham families and our mystery reader for generously donating these books.
Sharing a bedtime story with your child holds special value, making them feel truly cherished. Walt Disney summed it up well: “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”
Congratulations to Ruth Miskin! We are delighted that Ruth Miskin, the visionary behind Read Write Inc., has been awarded a damehood. Caterham embraced the Read Write Inc. methodology nearly five years ago, and it has been a pleasure witnessing the remarkable progress and fostering of a love for learning among our students.
This week, as the children returned from the break, we observed their seamless transition back into phonics lessons, demonstrating a renewed focus and energy.
