Young Musicians Shine at House Music Finals
Last Friday, the prep school hosted its House Music Performance Finals, showcasing the talents of some of our best musicians. The afternoon was filled with amazing performances, highlighting the dedication and hard work of our pupils.
The grades 0-1 category saw Zoe taking the win with her delightful performance of “La Mantovana” on the clarinet. Her musicality and potential impressed the judge, Mr Hall as she performed with great enthusiasm.
In the grades 2-3 category, Isabella’s heartfelt singing of “I’d Do Anything” from the musical Oliver! was delightful. Her expressive performance and clear passion for singing made her a deserving winner. Kiera, with her flute solo “Circus Rag” was the runner-up in this section.
In the grades 4+ category, Sophia emerged in 1st place with a beautiful performance of “Silent Aria” on the oboe. Her solo captivated the audience, earning her the top spot. Also highly commended was Cecilia Q with her performance of Schumann’s Einsame Blumen on the piano.
This year we trialled a composition category for House Music, run as a separate competition. There were some creative entries which led to 2 children’s compositions being selected for a final round. In this, Robin’s song “Where’s Bernie Boo” was given first place whilst Kimi’s song “Lightning” came a close second.
The House Music Competition was a wonderful celebration of our pupils’ talents and a testament to the strong musical culture at Caterham Prep. Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding performances!
Many thanks also to Mr Hall for judging the performances and Dr Brammeld for accompanying on the piano and judging the composition section.
