Digital EDGE
With innovation at the heart of what we do, Caterham Prep has achieved national and international recognition for its innovation with both technology and curriculum design.
“Why not?” is a question we ask ourselves a lot, especially when it comes to looking for ways to do things better. Digital EDGE is about equipping every pupil to become an independent, creative and collaborative problem-solver in the digital age. By exploring robotics, coding, 3D design, media, R&D, product design and applied AI, we aim to cultivate a strong foundation in digital skills and innovation that can be applied throughout the curriculum and beyond the school gates. Through hands-on experiences, pupils learn to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world challenges, nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset and equipping them with the tools necessary to excel in any field in a world in which collaboration, communication, problem-solving and confidence with technology are not nice-to-haves but key skills.
Digital EDGE starts in Reception and continues through the prep school, senior school to Sixth Form. Lessons might see children coding and customising robots and drones to conduct rescue missions in disaster zones, creating interactive programmes to help other children learn about ancient cultures or online safety, working alongside an AI co-worker and in flexible development teams to create bespoke mobile apps or creating and producing their own 3D designs.
Beyond lessons, Innovation Pioneers Club runs multiple times per week, giving children the opportunity to work on projects and new skills outside the curriculum, teach and learn from one another, work with companies to test and refine new products and even launch business ventures of their own. All of these skills become part of the ‘toolkit’ that children can bring with them to apply throughout their education and into the world beyond school with confidence and safety.
