Winner – Independent School of the Year, Best Use of Edtech

Caterham School has been named as a winner in the Independent School of the Year Awards for its use of Education Technology. From a shortlist of over 40 schools, Caterham was selected for its development and use of AI learning bot RileyBot. RileyBot is a groundbreaking edtech innovation which harnesses the power of AI but ensures that children are in the driving seat. Unlike mainstream AI models, RileyBot does not simply give children the answers but instead acts like a learning assistant, coaching children to achieve the answers themselves. This approach ensures children’s capacity to learn and problem solve is supported, encouraged and developed.  RileyBot can be used for extension work, for revision and gives feedback to improve both typed and handwritten work. RileyBot works specifically to each child’s age and adapts to their learning speed and needs. RileyBot is also specifically primed to support children with SENs with voice and speed functions, specialist fonts and screen presentation options. RileyBot has safeguarding at its core with a built in alert system which ensures teachers and parent are aware and have transparency over all interactions.

RileyBot has been in use in classrooms and for homework by Caterham Senior, Caterham Prep and Copthorne Prep pupils since the spring and has also being adopted by East Surrey Learning Partnership primary schools as well as independent and state-maintained schools across the UK. Work on the groundbreaking AI bot has also garnered interest from UK and global education departments.
