Auditions for Chapel Choir JETS & ETS Now Open
Choir Auditions for ETS (Eric Thiman Singers) and new for 2021, JETS (Junior Eric Thiman Singers) now open! ETS and JETS are chapel choirs that will represent Caterham School at a variety of church events throughout the year.
ETS (Eric Thiman Singers) is for pupils in Year 6 and Senior School.
Our new choir JETS (Junior Eric Thiman Singers) is pupils in Years 3, 4, 5. Entry for both choirs will be by audition. The audition will comprise of: – A short performance/section of a song of your choice (this should be something that could/might be sung in church. A hymn, Christmas Carol for example) – Some vocal exercises – Some aural skills – Some simple sight reading (ETS only) For this choir, we are looking for a clear vocal tone appropriate for church/cathedral singing. All singers are further trained in this style of singing as part of rehearsals. The auditions will be fun, relaxed and enjoyable. Auditions will be held by Mrs Ingrassia (Deputy Head Prep School) and Mr Assen (Director of Music – Senior School)
The following information is important to note about membership of these choirs: – Full commitment and dedication is essential and we do expect participation for the full school year. – ETS Rehearsals take place from 8am on one morning a week and also during one lunchtime a week. JETS will rehearse after school once a week. Additional, ad hoc rehearsals are occasionally held as necessary. – Once a term there is a Sunday commitment, either for a morning service at a local church or for a rehearsal day – Tours abroad are not compulsory but singers are encouraged to participate when possible over the course of their time with the choir. Parents are welcome to join us for performances on tour abroad. Tours do not apply for JETS. – Children who are members of ETS/JETS will also be required to participate in an additional Prep School Choir
