Scholarship Society Shed Light on the Sun
Last week, a group of Year 6 pupils were invited to join the senior school’s Scholarship Society lecture on ‘The Science of the Sun’, led by Dr Marc Scott from the senior school’s Science Department. The question: How can we know what the Sun and other stars are made of if we can’t visit them to collect samples?
Lights were dimmed and coloured flames studied as the children explored how light spectra can tell us about the composition of the Sun and the origins of the elements and minerals we find, mine and use in our modern lives here on Earth.
The Prep children asked probing questions, ventured their thoughts and generally had a great virtual visit and preview of what might be in store in the years ahead.
