Caterham Athlete Programme Arrives at Prep
On Friday evening, pupils from Year 6 attended an athletic testing event at the senior school. The pupils took part in a variety of tests which included the standing and vertical jumps, speed gate tests, an agility test and the evening was finished with the punishing yo yo test.
18 pupils took part in the event, which was open to all Year 6 pupils, to give them an insight into performance testing in sport. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activities, pushing themselves to the limit and the experience will stand them in good stead when they move up to the senior school next year.
The evening was part of an ongoing programme which will see aspects of the Senior School CAP programme rolled out to the Prep School. Next term more events are planned including a similar sports testing evening for pupils in Year 4 and 5. There are also sessions planned where senior school staff will deliver sample lessons to prep school children in Lacrosse, Netball, Hockey and Rugby to give the children an insight into how sport is delivered in the senior school.
With many talented sporting children in the Prep School, the children will also benefit from mentoring sessions with subject specialists from the senior school. This is a very exciting initiative jointly led by the prep school and senior school staff with the aim to give our pupils the very best sporting opportunities and make the transfer from Prep to Senior School on the Games field as seamless as possible.
