Caterham Girls U9 Football Festival
With the rain staying away, the annual Caterham Girls U9 Football festival was in full swing on Saturday morning.
Playing a round robin, the girls got off to a flying start, with Lucia DS scoring from the whistle. Several more goals followed as Caterham took every opportunity in the Banstead box to go for the back of the net, a fabulous 7-0 win. Next up were Aberdour, who had beaten Caterham earlier in the week, the girls lost their way a little, allowing Aberdour to dominate the play. An unlucky deflection into our own goal and some great finishes by Aberdour, Caterham were unable to take any points. Reigate followed and scored quickly, but then the game settled into an end to end affair, with Caterham pulling a goal back and then edging ahead. Reigate were relentless and drew level, with the time ticking away, the opposition struck again and took the win in the closing seconds, a tough 2-3 loss. The final round robin game was against Hawthorns, who had beaten Caterham earlier in the season, and the girls were up for the match. The defence settled into their roles and kept a strong Hawthorns team at bay. Once again, it was end to end, and both teams came away with a goal, it was a good draw to conclude the day. Well done everyone.
