Celebrating Chinese New Year

Celebrating Chinese New Year

This week we celebrated the start of the Chinese New Year in an assembly led by Marble, CeCe, Iris N, Iris S, Audrey, Naomi, Ben and Kiera.  They told us all about this celebration, its history and that it is the Year of the Snake this year.  Many thanks to these pupils for their hard work putting this assembly together.

Later in the day, our prep pupils had the opportunity join senior pupils and staff to enjoy their celebrations. The senior school event was also used as an opportunity to teach other pupils in the community about the traditions of the Lunar New Year celebrations. There were traditional decorations and lanterns, photos of families celebrating with food and red packets, traditional Chinese craft activities and the celebratory clothes that they wear. Pupils from across the school demonstrated their calligraphy skills to make good luck signs and banners, to wish for prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead. We also had a demonstration of how to make Chinese dumplings and our pupils enjoyed being able to have a go at this themselves!
