County Hockey and EGHA Tournament Round Off Girls Hockey Season
The girls’ hockey season finally rounded up this week, with the U11s at the highly competitive county competition and the U10s at the EGHA tournament.
The U11s put in a great shift, despite losing out in three of their matches, they improved along the way, notching up a further win and two draws. A fabulous effort and it bodes well for the future.
The U10s competed at The Triangle, Burgess Hill against schools from across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. The girls had to adapt quickly with their match bumped forward, the opposition made a swift start, drawing an early penalty corner which was easily converted. Caterham were strong out of defence and held strong in midfield, but could not convert their goal opportunities, one denied as deemed out of the ‘D.’ Bromley High were up next, and it was end to end, but again Caterham were denied a well worked goal, and the score remained 0-0. The strongest team in the group followed, Handcross Park, who had notched up a great goal record in their previous matches. Caterham started positively and held their own before Handcross converted a penalty corner with a super strike from the top of the D; Isabella M cleared a barrage of shots before Handcross struck again. Another Caterham goal was disallowed and despite a 0-2 loss, it was a super effort. The final group game against Skippers Hill again remained scoreless, with some super work through the midfield, the strikers were denied again. With several schools in the mix, further scoring systems had to be looked at and it wasn’t quite enough to push Caterham through to the next round. Well done everyone.
