Effective Hockey Training Pays Off at Micklefield Fixtures

The U8s travelled away to Hazelwood on Tuesday, for another round robin format of matches. The girls have been working hard on their ball carrying and passing techniques, and received positive comments from the opposition coaches; match play and game sense is going to take time, but their enthusiasm is second to none.  Well done girls!

On Wednesday afternoon, the U11A and U10A took on Micklefield at home, with a great crowd of supporters.  The U11s have been working hard over the last few sessions on playing the ball wide,  supporting play and finishing, it’s great to see the training ground efforts are paying off. After a few goal attempts went shy of the post and not to mention an active Micklefield GK, our team dominated the game and the goals started to flow. It was truly a whole team performance, the Caterham GK’s were rarely tested, but reacted quickly with the few Micklefield attempts. A great 8-0 win to start off a successful afternoon.

Taking inspiration from the U11s, the U10s took to the pitch with great enthusiasm and quickly settled into the game.  Strong defensive work from the back three, enabled a number of drives through the midfield. The Micklefield GK was busy as Caterham worked hard in the D and eventually broke through with a goal by BB. A further goal by Caterham, followed by a successful Micklefield strike the game was not over. Caterham stepped up the pressure and dominated the play earning two further goals. Well done on a 4-1 victory.

Not content with one game on Wednesday afternoon, the U11s had the opportunity to combine with the senior girls as part of the U12 squad for a fixture against Croydon High.  After a quick meet with their new teammates, they set to work and all played their part brilliantly- scoring, assisting and saving goals! It was another great result for Caterham, winning 10-0 and 3-1.

To round off the week, the U9s hosted Micklefield and all three teams worked their socks off.  The A team were fantastic in defense, clearing any chances Micklefield threw at them. They were denied goals on multiple occasions, hitting the post and just glancing wide- the ball just wouldn’t cross the line and the score remained 0-0. The B’s and C’s dominated their games, winning 6-3 and 5-0 respectively. All in all, a great week, with goals galore for Caterham.

Next week, the U8s travel to Copthorne, the U9s host Russell House and the U10 and U11 will battle out in House Hockey.
