Netball Fixture Reports
It’s been a bumper couple of weeks on the netball courts for all age groups, with some fine results against Hawthorns, RSM, Russell House and Micklefield. The U10 and U11 squads have been on a goal fest, conceding very few goals across the matches, the teams have gelled well over recent weeks and have played more fluently down the court. Our youngest teams have been on fine form too, the U8s have made the transition from 4 aside Flier to full court 5 a side positional matches. A-D squads were unbeaten against Hawthorns and RSM, with our U9As also retaining a clean sheet-morning shooting club has certainly paid off!
Last Saturday, the U11As competed in a tournament at Hawthorns, where they were up against some of the strongest schools in the area. First up, a local derby v Hawthorns, it was a slow start with the score 1-2 at half time, the rotation worked in Caterham’s favour as they warmed up and into a 6-1 lead to take the win. Next up, Feltonfleet, it was a real end to end battle with the opposition taking an early lead and retaining the ball, however the girls dug deep and pulled it back and converted a late opportunity to win 4-3. The next two group matches were tough, with strong play by Downsend and St Michael’s, Caterham just couldn’t get the ball into the circle and only converted a few opportunities. That meant, the team finished third in the group but would proceed to the 5th/6th play off. The team got stuck in from the start and played with great energy and drive, quickly dominating the play and were able to pull away to an 8-0 lead at half time. Aberdour were frustrated and Caterham were in full flow and shooting fantastically, sinking a further eight goals and conceding one, taking the win 16-1 to finish 5th overall. It was a great experience and comfort that the two finalists were our only losses on the day.
This week, the U8A and B teams played Micklefield and the C and D teams played Micklefield and Moon Hall, it was another super performance from our youngest players as they continue to understand their positional roles.
Two mixed squads from U10/11 ventured to Russell House for 7 a side matches. The C team were goal for goal with the opposition until the last quarter when they pulled away with some sharp shooting to take the win 9-4. A more challenging match for the Ds, as Russell House took advantage on the turnover and converted their shooting opportunities. To round off the regular season, the U9s hosted Russell House for their first experience of a 7 a side match and what a brilliant afternoon all round with both teams passing and moving into space, feeding the circle well and converting their goal opportunities. Final scores Cat A won 11-1 and Cat B won 9-1.
Next week, the U10 and U9 have a pre-season football friendly v Hawthorns.
