Netball Round Up Week 4
In their first netball season, the Year 3 girls have concentrated on the Flier 4 v 4 format of the game, learning the fundamental principles of play. This week, they travelled to Copthorne for a coaching game and had the opportunity to play the next stage, Stinger 5-a-side with specific positions. Everyone had the chance to try out more than one position and plenty of goals were scored- well done girls.
Three teams mixed together from Years 5 and 6 to play Copthorne on Wednesday afternoon. The A’s game was all square after the first quarter, with 4 goals a piece, Caterham edged ahead in the second with Copthorne bringing it level again in the third. In the final quarter, Copthorne pushed hard and ran away with a flurry of goals to take the win. The B’s had a fabulous afternoon, dominating the play and sharp shooting to take the match 11-3. The C team played with great determination and had some lovely passages of play, linking passes and advancing to the circle, super shooting from Maya and Sophia allowed Caterham to take the win 9-0.
The U9s rounded off the week, and their season, against Russell House. All three teams played 5 a side, and it was the first match in this format for the B and C teams. The A team were feeling strong after a great result last week and they were determined to convert many opportunities in the circle; they came away with a fantastic victory 9-2. The B’s worked hard to turn over the ball and advance quickly down the court, they scored in every quarter and again took the win 5-1. For their first attempt at Stinger 5-a-side, the C’s had the chance to try different positions and they were up against a strong side from Russell House. That said, they had some super attempts at passing and moving the ball forward, the challenge was remembering to mark up quickly on the turnover. The opposition went 3-0 up by the end of the first half and Caterham did well to hold them to this score line for the rest of the match. Unfortunately, no goals for the Caterham side today, but a super effort and great learning.
Next week, we see the Houses go head to head in all year groups and the Year 5 and 6 play Micklefield on Wednesday afternoon.
