Netball Stingers Success!
On Tuesday, the U8 netballers played their second match in the 5 a side STINGER format. The players have been working hard to learn the role of each position and what that role entails. Keen to build upon their last encounter with Reigate St Mary, the teams were up for the challenge of the 5 a side match. The A team dominated the play but struggled to convert numerous opportunities in the shooting circle. Inspired at half time with some positional rotations, the team clicked into goal scoring action, winning 6-2. The B team were on fire in the goal circle winning 8-1, with Kiana Y earning a well-deserved POM for her determined hunger for the ball and goal scoring. The Cs played end to end and worked well together to create goal opportunities, notable marking from Sophia C as centre and Nora P finding good space in the circle, they too took the victory 4-0.
Unfortunately, our opposition next week have cancelled for the U8s, so they will conclude the season with internal House matches, what a super netball season U8s!
The U10s hosted RSM at home, with the As starting slowly going down 5-1 after the first quarter. Positional rotations worked well, and the team found their stride, preventing any further goals from RSM for the rest of the match. The final score was 15-5 to Caterham, with Mila VH and Naomi O in particular gaining lots of interceptions. Well done all! The B’s had lots of opportunities to score but just couldn’t find the back of the net! It came down to the final quarter with RSM sneaking victory by one goal. The Cs went off to Hawthorns for a ‘C’ tournament and despite having a limited squad due to illness, had a lovely afternoon playing against some rather strong competition. An opening 0-0 match against a tenacious St Michael’s team was a great start, with Lily-May A working hard in the defensive end to turnover the ball. Next up was Hazelwood, and the team started to link passes effectively to press the goal circle, good work by Cecilia H and Cecilia Q in the goal circle, the team were level 2-2 until a closing seconds goal by Hazelwood sealed their win. Further games against Hoe Bridge and one of two Hawthorns teams were quite a test for the team, but they held their heads up high and tireless running in the centre court by Annabel C and Charlotte CS supporting the defence, the team enjoyed the opportunity of tournament play.
