Our Amazing Year 6 Trip to France

Our Amazing Year 6 Trip to France

Our Year Six trip to France was one of the best days ever! It wasn’t just fun—it also helped us learn loads about another country, try out new things, and spend time with our friends in a completely different place. From markets and bakeries to sea creatures and croissants, the day was full of excitement, surprises, and memories we’ll never forget. Here’s what happened…

A Very Early Start!

We had to meet at school at 5:00 in the morning—yes, 5 AM! Even though we were really sleepy, we felt super excited. Everyone was chatting on the coach, wondering what France would be like. It was still dark outside, but it felt like we were about to go on a big adventure.

When we got to Folkestone, we had to get our passports out and go through check-in for the Eurotunnel. It felt grown-up and important, like we were real travellers! We drove onto the train and crossed under the sea, and before we knew it, we were in another country!

Bonjour, France!

When we arrived in Calais, we noticed things were different straight away. The signs were in French, and the houses didn’t look like the ones we have back home. We drove to a town called Étaples-sur-Mer to visit a real French market.

The market was full of colours and amazing smells—cheese, bread, fruit, even some fish (which smelled a bit strong!). Some of us tried speaking French to the stall owners.  “Bonjour, combien ça coûte?” which means “Hello, how much does this cost?” We were a bit nervous, but they understood us! We even bought something using euros—it felt strange not using pounds.

Baking Like the French

Next, we went to a proper French bakery. It was called Le Fournil and it smelled so good inside. We watched the bakers make bread and croissants from scratch. They were so quick with their hands—it was like magic!

We learned how bread rises and how they get that nice golden colour. The best bit? We got to taste the bread! The croissants were warm and buttery, and the baguettes were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was the tastiest lesson ever.

Under the Sea at Nausicaá

After that, we went to Nausicaá, a huge sea life centre. It wasn’t just about looking at fish—it was about learning how we can protect the ocean. There were sharks, jellyfish, stingrays, and even sea lions!

One of our favourite parts was walking through the tunnel with fish swimming all around us. It felt like we were under the sea ourselves. The sea lion show was brilliant—they were clever and funny, and we learned how trainers take care of them.

Home Time… and a Birthday Surprise!

By the end of the day, we were all really tired but happy. On the way back through the Eurotunnel, we had a little party on the coach for a friend’s birthday. We sang to him and he shared sweets with everyone, which was really kind.

When we got back to school, it was already dark again, and our families were waiting to take us home. We were so tired, but couldn’t stop smiling.

What We Learned

This trip taught us that learning doesn’t always happen in the classroom. We tried new foods, spoke another language, and saw amazing animals. We also learned how to be more independent and brave.

It wasn’t just a school trip—it was an adventure we’ll remember forever.
