Public Speaking Focus in Debating Society
This half term Debating Society members have focused on public speaking. We watched inspirational speeches from Martin Luther King, JFK and Nelson Mandela, observing the skills and techniques used to engage with the audience. Each member of the society then prepared a short speech on something they are interested in or have a passion about. It was wonderful to see every member of the society rise to this challenge, particularly those who felt quite nervous about speaking in front of others. The speeches covered a range of topics including football, rugby, endangered animals, Greek mythology and protecting the environment. Isaac spoke passionately about why he prefers older art to modern art, and Max presented a fascinating history of the Rubik’s cube. It has been such a successful term for these Y5 Debaters and we can’t wait to see how they develop as they move into Year 6.
