Shadow Studies in Year 4
No one was left in the shade in Year 4 this week as we looked at how we could change the length and darkness of shadows by moving the position of a light source (a torch).
We found the darker shadows were made by the torch being really close to the opaque object which blocked the light. Longer shadows were made when the torch was further away. It was interesting to see the effect that tilting the torch had on the shadow too and we copied what the sun does through the day to investigate why our own shadows change size at different times of the day.
We found the shadows were longest in the morning and evening positions to the sides and shortest (like a ring around the object) in the midday position straight above.
Well done Year 4 on such careful investigating and careful measuring!
