Skills to Deal with Worries
Year 2 have been thinking about our worries and how to ‘offload’ some of them. We used a backpack full of heavy ‘worries’ and discussed different strategies to make the load lighter. The children came up with: counting to 10; having a short rest; writing the worry down and posting into a Worry Monster; telling a trusted person, as well as breathing in and out very slowly. Each time they discussed a strategy a worry was removed from the backpack. They all agreed that eventually the bag was much easier to carry around even though there were some really small everyday worries inside.
