Sparrows in Year 1’s Spotlight

Sparrows in Year 1’s Spotlight

This week, the Year 1 children excitedly moved from the Outdoor Classroom to the new story circle to listen, look for and learn about Sparrows. They sat on the new fairy stools while Mrs du Plooy demonstrated what these little birds sound like before they learned some interesting facts. The children were amazed to find out that Sparrows can fly at 32mph and that over the past 40 years their numbers have dropped by 71%. The children were interested to find out that male Sparrows have darker brown feathers and that the female Sparrow has lighter brown feathers. The children were very good at spotting and listening out for them.

Our new story chair and stools have been handcrafted for Pre-Prep by our talented woodsman, Jay Needham and kindly funded by the Parents’ Association. Thank you  – the children and staff absolutely love them !
