Year 2 Shaping Up
2P have enjoyed an array of shape activities this week. In the classroom we’ve been sorting 2D shapes and looking at lines of symmetry. This also included having fun using the Geoboards, tessellations shapes and the iPads to make symmetrical shapes. On the netball court, the girls had their first netball lesson and an introduction to all the different shapes and zones on the netball court. What a week!
2M have been having adventures in outdoor learning again, gathering suitable, dry wood for a fire ready for Mr Wilkinson to light (producing enormous amounts of smoke indeed!). He then hung a well-used traditional kettle of water above the fire to see how long it took to boil. Some of Year 2 made their own little firepits and all watched Mr Wilkinson chop logs to see the inside and how sap and water travels through the wood. Inside school, the children have been learning all about shape and have been creating some from straws and geoboards and sorting them into categories based on their own criteria. They have thoroughly enjoyed taking photos of each other on the iPads and changing the photographs using different filters and settings. The outcomes are amazing!”
