Year 3 Super Soil Studies

Our Year 3 scientists have been studying rocks and soils and they conducted an experiment to compare soils from their own gardens to see how fast they drain. The pupils’ studies involved accurate measuring, great collaboration, use of the digital clock on the ipad (and converting minutes into seconds), and finally comparing their results.  They discovered that even though they live geographically close together, the soil properties in their gardens can be very different. The results showed that stony soils drained quickly and ones containing clay were much slower, this led to further discussion on which soils would be more suitable for certain types of plants.
