Year 5 Look at Solutions
Year 5 investigated what causes solutes to reach saturation and how this is affected by temperature. They thoroughly researched how to measure the saturation points and decided to time it and weigh the quantity of the solute (in this case salt). They were all so excellent with their measuring, weighing and timing that the results were very reliable. We averaged the class results and found hot water as a solvent worked the best to dissolve the fastest and the greatest mass of salt. Cold water was the least soluble. Next lesson we are looking at whether salt or sugar are more soluble in water.
