YEAR 5 v YEAR 6 CHRISTMAS DEBATE 2021
Exciting events this week in Debating Society! It was time for the annual Year 5 v Year 6 Christmas debate, and this year’s result was the closest yet.
The motion before the House was, ‘This House believes that we are at risk of losing the true meaning of Christmas’. Year 6 spoke for the motion. Ben D, Alex W and Oliver C presented a well-structured, logical and carefully researched speech, which they delivered with clarity and charm. Year 5 spoke against the motion, with Gruff, Archie and Alexander L delivering an emotive speech full of persuasive language and heart-felt arguments. Debating Society members added their views before the socially-distanced audience voted on their winner. It was a close vote, very narrowly going to the Year 6 team. Guest judge, Miss Stone, provided valuable advice and feedback to the debaters, before announcing that the Judge’s decision was also with Year 6 as the debate victors.
Many congratulations to the six speakers and to all of Debating Society for a fantastic term’s debating! Next term our numbers will be at their highest ever, with almost 40% of Year 5/6 attending each week.
