Music

Music plays an important role in the life of the Prep School. We aim to provide an exciting musical education to all children, catering for all abilities and styles of learning.

Our classroom music curriculum fosters a love and appreciation of music. Children in the Prep School participate in class group instrumental schemes, which this year are Strings in Year 2, Woodwind and Brass in Year 3,  Ukuleles in Year 5 and Guitars in Year 6. In Year 4 pupils perform a musical in the Spring Term. Pupils study all genres of music in class and musical literacy is taught using Kodaly principles.

Throughout the year there are regular class concerts giving every child the chance to perform. There are also regular informal soloist concerts for parents as well as termly choir and ensemble performances. Every child sings in the Christmas Carol concert and has opportunities to perform in assemblies and other events.

Our team of professional visiting music teachers offer individual lessons on a wide range of instruments, please click here for full details.
