Drama and Debating
Music, Speech and Drama and all of the allied performance skills take up a great deal of our time and attention at Caterham Prep. This is just as it ought to be. To foster the skills and confidence to stand before other people and present to them are key life skills and ones that we seek to develop from an early age.
Whether the project be to participate in a fantasy musical in the school’s theatre or to speak publicly about World topics in a formal debate, Prep pupils are encouraged from an early age to stand before other people, over-come their nerves and speak, play an instrument or sing before others.
In Music, Drama and Debating we continue to pursue our dual aims of inclusivity and excellence. To do this we provide platforms for all pupils to join in and ‘have a go’. We also ensure that there are opportunities for the developing talents of our young children to be showcased in more ambitious venues.
Annual highlights for our Prep pupils include being able to tour European capitals with one of our choirs, play with the school ‘Symphonia’ and in Year Five, to take part in the National School’s Shakespeare Festival. Naturally there are plenty of other forums for performance throughout the school year as well.
